Community Service!

One of my favorite parts of the Miss Anchorage Scholarship Program is all the community service our lovely ladies participate in all year long! Here are some events they have volunteered at over the past few months!

Make sure you’re following us on Instagram and Facebook for more updates!

Miss Anchorage, Maile Johnston and Miss Anchorage’s Outstanding Teen, Sycely Wheeles started their reign off IMMEDIATELY by volunteering at the Towne Square New Years Eve celebration carnival.

Miss Anchorage, Maile Johnston, Miss Anchorage’s Outstanding Teen, Sycely Wheeles and Miss Cook Inlet’s Outstanding Teen, Corinne Johnson all volunteered their time at the Fur Rondy Coronation-a local festival pageant. Supporting other systems is very important to us!

Starting February off with a bang, Miss Anchorage delivered the suitcases she had been collecting to the Office of Children’s Services. Her platform is A Case for Hope: Providing Suitcases for Foster Children. The suitcases are kept in state vehicles and used by foster kids during relocation instead of trash bags. If you would like to contribute to her service project please e-mail us at missanchorageprogram@gmail.com.

Miss Cook Inlet’s Outstanding Teen volunteered for World Hijab Day, listening to the amazing ladies who are letting their voices be heard and educating people that wearing their hijabs is a choice and something that is very important to them.

All our ladies then spent the day volunteering for the Miss Chugiak/Eagle River competition and welcomed two new title holders to our sisterhood!

Immediately after, the majority of the Miss Alaska titleholders rushed off to help out with the Challenge Alaska Gala! We also had the honor of meeting Senator Lisa Murkowski. Challenge Alaska has a mission to improve the lives of people with disabilities, their families and the whole community through adaptive sports, therapeutic recreation, and education! Find out more here!

Our girls have done an amazing job representing our community so far! Stay tuned for more updates and how they did at the Miss Alaska Competition!

Miss Alaska 2017 and more!

Well, we did it again!

BACK TO BACK STATE WINNERS! We are sooooo proud of Emma and Angelina! Their hard work and dedication payed off as they were crowned Miss Alaska’s Outstanding Teen and Miss Alaska 2017!

This was such an amazing year at Miss Alaska.  Each and every girl that stepped foot onto that stage was ready to take on the job of a state titleholder, and we are so proud of every contestant.  What an amazing experience to be able to watch this years class of girls act with kindness, laughter, and professionalism throughout the week.  As part of the production team, I can honestly say these girls brought their A game.

Our beautiful Emma walked away with the talent and fitness awards ( I know there were a few others but I can’t seem to find which ones) along with the crown.  She is heading to Miss America’s Outstanding Teen the end of July and we wish her the best of luck there!

Angelina’s story is unique and special.  As she was named 1st runner up at our pageant in January, Angelina graciously filled the title of Miss Anchorage just 2 months prior to Miss Alaska.  Miss Anchorage is has a unique trip every July to Chitose Japan in conjunction with the Sister Cities Commission.  We are responsible for fundraising for that trip, and she did not shy away from that task.  Along with that, she also was preparing to compete at Miss Alaska! Not only did she listen to our advice, she made time and huge efforts in aligning practices with us, putting in work on her talent, modeling, and platform, and spent countless hours prepping for her interview. Her work paid off, and we are ECSTATIC to see her on that iconic Miss America Stage in September!

We would also like to make a special shout out to Ellie Gottstein ( Miss Cook Inlet 2016).  You see, once you become one of our girls  you stay one of our girls.  She was awarded CMN Miracle Maker,  People’s Choice, Top Ticket Sales, Fitness, Talent, and 1st Runner up to Miss Alaska. We love you dearly and are so proud of all you accomplished this year!

Now with all that said, this brings me to our next item of business, we will not be crowning new titleholders, due to the fact that we have moved up our pageant!

The 2018 Miss Anchorage Scholarship pageant will take place October 28th, 2017 at West High School!

We are accepting contracts now! Please note- the contract here on our website says 2017- so please make sure to change everything to 2018 until I receive the new contracts.  Here are the tentative due dates for everything

Contracts due  VIA EMAIL AUGUST 12

Resumes and essays due SEPT 9

Ad pages and monies due SEPT 30

Talent forms due SEPT 30

Photography forms due during our Headshot days with Hannah (TBA) and you will need to bring your paper contract to turn in then as well

CMN money due OCT 21

Interviews will be October 27 at the BP Energy Center time TBA

Again this is tentative so things likely will change!

Last but not least, we are looking to add a few chair members to our board.  We are looking for a scholarship/sponsor chair and event coordinator chair.  If you are interested, please email us at missanchorageorganization@gmail.com

2017 Miss Anchorage Pageant Roundup
