Miss Anchorage 2019, Maile Johnston
Maile was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and then spent the early years of her childhood in Honolulu, Hawaii. Maile attended Eagle River High School, and was an honor graduate in 2017. Maile is a 2ndyear honor student studying biology at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and has continuously been on the Dean’s List and the Chancellor’s List. Her academic goals include graduating with her bachelor’s degree in biology with honors and a minor in communication in the year 2020, and then attending law school to study environmental law. Maile’s talent is contemporary dance. Maile has been dancing since she was 11 years old and has been choreographing since she was 15. She has studied ballet, lyrical, contemporary, modern, hip-hop, and jazz, and has danced competitively at the state and national level. Maile also was a varsity competition cheerleader for Eagle River High School. Maile has been developing her social impact initiative, a Case for Hope, since the summer of 2018. Maile enjoys competing in the Miss America Organization because she believes the organization truly challenges women to better themselves in a multifaceted way and prepares women to be active leaders in their community.
