One of my favorite parts of the Miss Anchorage Scholarship Program is all the community service our lovely ladies participate in all year long! Here are some events they have volunteered at over the past few months!

Miss Anchorage, Maile Johnston and Miss Anchorage’s Outstanding Teen, Sycely Wheeles started their reign off IMMEDIATELY by volunteering at the Towne Square New Years Eve celebration carnival.

Miss Anchorage, Maile Johnston, Miss Anchorage’s Outstanding Teen, Sycely Wheeles and Miss Cook Inlet’s Outstanding Teen, Corinne Johnson all volunteered their time at the Fur Rondy Coronation-a local festival pageant. Supporting other systems is very important to us!

Starting February off with a bang, Miss Anchorage delivered the suitcases she had been collecting to the Office of Children’s Services. Her platform is A Case for Hope: Providing Suitcases for Foster Children. The suitcases are kept in state vehicles and used by foster kids during relocation instead of trash bags. If you would like to contribute to her service project please e-mail us at missanchorageprogram@gmail.com.

Miss Cook Inlet’s Outstanding Teen volunteered for World Hijab Day, listening to the amazing ladies who are letting their voices be heard and educating people that wearing their hijabs is a choice and something that is very important to them.

All our ladies then spent the day volunteering for the Miss Chugiak/Eagle River competition and welcomed two new title holders to our sisterhood!

Immediately after, the majority of the Miss Alaska titleholders rushed off to help out with the Challenge Alaska Gala! We also had the honor of meeting Senator Lisa Murkowski. Challenge Alaska has a mission to improve the lives of people with disabilities, their families and the whole community through adaptive sports, therapeutic recreation, and education! Our girls have done an amazing job representing our community so far! Stay tuned for more updates and how they did at the Miss Alaska Competition!
